These years of trying new ideas will inform what Obsidian creates in the future and give Microsoft a better picture of what to expect out of this new working relations</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">As such, Avowed seemed to be </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">odd man out this year, though the game was briefly mentioned at the end </del>of the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">show by Xbox head Phil Spencer</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">With The Outer Worlds 2 likely in very early development</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed </del>is <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">likely Obsidian's next major game release , which means more news </del>could be <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">coming later </del>in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">2021 at one </del>of the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">various game events left this y</del>

The <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">specialization of class systems can be very satisfying, however, particularly in RPGs where the player travels in </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">party like Avowed 's CRPG precursor series Pillars of Eternity , </del>which <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">came with eleven largely </del>traditional <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fantasy </del>RPG <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">classes</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">That level of specialization can also be particularly immersive in </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">way Skyrim 's jack</del>-<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">of-all-trades Dragonborn sometimes falls shorts</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">A classless sytem also risks generalizing gameplay - players may not be an all-out mage</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">for example, but there's little reason not to use Skyrim 's starting Healing spell regardless of their playst</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">One of the reasons </del>Obsidian <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is moving </del>its <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Pillars </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eternity setting </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a </del>first<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">-person RPG format is financial</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">As well-received as the </del>Pillars of Eternity <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">games were</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it </del>is <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">hoped that moving the RPG series </del>to a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">more recognizable format </del>will <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">help draw new players. This, </del>in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">turn, would help further establish Obsidian Entertainment as Microsoft's RPG powerhouse (especially considering </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Bethesda acquisiti</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Most fantasy fans also have </del>far <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fewer expectations when </del>it <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">comes </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed ’s lore </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">what they </del>might <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">expect to find in the Living Lands . While players of </del>The Elder Scrolls <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">6 might find exploring </del>Dwemer ruins <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">less exciting and more familiar than it was when they first played Skyrim </del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed </del>'s <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">players are far less likely </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">know about aspects </del>of the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lore like the ancient Engwithan ruins running underneath Eora and their connection to the world’s backst</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Before her overthrow</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">however, Woedica was the most powerful and dangerous of the gods. The Avowed trailer hints </del>that the upcoming <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">RPG may be set in Eora before Woedica </del>was <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">overthrown. If so, this would explain the difference between the technology seen in the Avowed trailer and the guns and cannons known to exist in Pillars </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eternity </del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Assuming </del>that <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">technology progressed at roughly the same rate in Eora as it did in Earth's history , Avowed </del>would be <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">set several centuries before Pillars of Eterni

However</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">there were a bunch </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">major titles, </del>some <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">expected to launch later this year</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">which also went missing in action at the all digital event. Here are </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">twenty biggest games to go missing at E3 20</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Unfortunately, not much else </del>has <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">been revealed regarding </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">zombie survival </del>game<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">. Following </del>its <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">reveal, Undead Labs did confirm that </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game was still very </del>early in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">development indicating release would still be a long ways off</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Without much else </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">go on </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">year later, its understandable that most fans felt a new trailer or </del>development <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">update would be ready</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">though </del>if <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">State of Decay 3 </del>is <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">attempting </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fix and build off of </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">franchise's legacy, development </del>could be a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lengthy one</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">especially to fulfill that huge open world sandbox survival fant</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">In contrast</del>, the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">townsfolk </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Solstheim frequently reference their isolation and </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">small size </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">their settlement</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">despite Raven Rock being bigger than some </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Skyrim ’s other settlements like Riverwood and Rorisktead. Avowed could create towns which are </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">same size as Skyrim ’s cities</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but seem far </del>more <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">convincing as hastily constructed frontier towns than ancient seats of power no bigger than a f</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">One major Obsidian project is actually already accessible. Grounded went into early access in July 2020 </del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and Obsidian has been supporting it aggressively ever since. Grounded is </del>a new <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">take on </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">familiar premise: the player characters are children who've mysteriously been shrunken down, </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">now have to fight insects much larger than them to survive</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Although Grounded looked strong from the beginning</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Obsidian consistently comes up with good additions to </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">like new buildings for players </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">create </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a koi pond offering a tense </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">beautiful new way </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">engage with </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">microscopic wo</del>

Grounded <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is Obsidian's big potential release </del>for <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">2021, but the studio's next step is public too</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">In the same showcase that Grounded was revealed</del>, Obsidian <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and Microsoft announced [https://Reconcavoafrofestival.com/ Avowed Updates], a new RPG set </del>in the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Pillars </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eternity universe</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Although </del>Obsidian <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">has said next to nothing about Avowed since then</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">knowing </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">setting of </del>the game <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">has gone </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">long way in helping fans get an image of </del>the game<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">. There's tons of Pillars of Eternity lore already in place </del>that<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">'ll surely inform </del>the game, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">no matter what the story is or how the gameplay differs from the games that precede</del>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">In Skyrim , players could manipulate items to decorate their homes in extreme detail</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">They could sit in any chair at any inn and listen </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a bard play music, and they could zoom out and see themselves as part of a scene. They could even famously put buckets over </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">heads of shopkeeper NPCs </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">order </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">break the character</ins>'s <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">line of sight, letting them steal as many items from </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">store as they could ca</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">If Avowed wants to distinguish itself, players should be able to see the frontier</ins>'s <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fragile communities rise and fall depending on their actions. Avowed </ins>'s <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">setting may be more traditionally medieval than Pillars of Eternity , but by setting its upcoming game on a frontier Obsidian could have far more flexibility</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">telling </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">story far away from regions </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eora with more established lore and allowing the player </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">have a huge influence over </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game</ins>'s <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">wo
</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Dragons in </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Pillars </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eternity universe continue to expand in both size and intelligence </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">older they get</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Old dragons can grow to be dozens of feet long</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and their intelligence </ins>is <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">said to surpass almost any other being encountered in Eora. Dragons </ins>could <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">not only prove to </ins>be <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">among the most interesting combat encounters </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed , but potentially some </ins>of the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">most interesting characters players might meet in the g</ins>

The <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Outer Worlds presents </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game world </ins>which <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">resembles a </ins>traditional <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Bethesda </ins>RPG <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">in many ways</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Players find themselves thrown into </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">non</ins>-<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">linear world filled with quests and NPCs, and often find themselves moving from town to town solving mysteries, running errands, and resolving local conflicts</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Combat is common between towns</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and exploration is encoura</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">This could require </ins>Obsidian <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">to make some updates to </ins>its <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">engine during the development </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed . That being said, the studio can't hope </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">take on The Elder Scrolls series without </ins>first <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">understanding some of the smaller elements that helped bring its huge success</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed may be a continuation of </ins>Pillars of Eternity , <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but many fantasy fans buying the game will be hoping for a spiritual successor to Skyrim . If Obsidian </ins>is <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">going </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">take on </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">giant, the devil </ins>will <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">be </ins>in the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">deta</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed 's setting has </ins>far <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">more to offer than </ins>it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">first appears </ins>to<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">. Its hidden depths are literal. There are huge pillars of adra - a soul-channeling mineral - that extend into mega-dungeons beneath Eora that hide hidden secrets </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">technology. This </ins>might <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">sound like </ins>The Elder Scrolls <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">' </ins>Dwemer ruins, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but unlike The Elder Scrolls , Obsidian</ins>'s <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eora-set games have not hesitated </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">make solving the mysteries of its lost civilization a main part </ins>of the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">p</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">However</ins>, that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">wasn't meant to be as </ins>the upcoming <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Fable </ins>was <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">left out </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Microsoft's already stuffed E3 2021 press conference</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">While industry insiders mentioned </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">certain Xbox franchises like Fable </ins>would be <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">absent from E3 </ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the lack </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">confirmation from Microsoft gave </ins>some <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fans hope that perhaps even a trailer would be shown. Unfortunately for them</ins>, the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">wait contin</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Pillars of Eternity </ins>has <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a fascinating setting. At the time </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">first </ins>game <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">takes place, Eora has settled into </ins>its <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">rough equivalent of </ins>the early <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">modern era. The character was exploring what appeared to be an abandoned city outside of </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">little girl </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">holographic cat</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Before long</ins>, the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">camera pulls back revealing distorted scenery and buildings</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">eventually leading </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a satellite crashing down </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">sending the astronaut </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">little girl </ins>to the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">m</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">A lot of talk around </ins>Grounded <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">involves what it means </ins>for <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">future games</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">It seems to be a good testing ground for things like enemy AI</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">as </ins>Obsidian <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">creates intelligent enemies </ins>in the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game's wide range </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bugs and other animals</ins>. Obsidian <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">isn't generally known for survival games like Grounded, either</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">so </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">positive feedback it's received on </ins>the game <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bodes well for further Obsidian experiments. Grounded is teaching Obsidian </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lot that it can potentially use. While current Grounded updates are focused on polishing </ins>the game<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">, odds seem good </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">even when </ins>the game <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">officially launches</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Obsidian will have more large-scale updates and additions to offer its player b</ins>
They were able to manipulate souls through </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">science known as Animancy . As Animancy developed </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Engwithans became masters of metaphysics</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">began finding solid answers </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">abstract metaphysical questions</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">To their shock</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">they discovered there were no gods. Determined </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">cover up </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">truth</del>, the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">leaders of Engwith decided to make their </del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">This bodes well for The Outer Worlds 2 , which was announced at E3 2021. The game's trailer parodied the early announcements of other games - particularly RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Elder Scrolls 6 - suggesting it's in very early development. In that case, The Outer Worlds 2 could be in </del>Obsidian's <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">back pocket</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">with the announcement trailer designed to keep interest in </del>the studio's <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">upcoming releases as it works on Avowed </del>. In <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">other words, </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fact that both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 are "in development" doesn't actually mean </del>that Obsidian <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is dividing its resources evenly between the games, or anywhere cl

Oaths are referenced twice, </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the trailer ends with a reference to a crown</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Crowns are one of Woedica's symbols</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and unlike the other gods of Eora Woedica can be seen wearing </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">crown </del>in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">all </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">her depictions</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">A crown symbol very similar </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Woedica's can also be seen on </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">banner hanging from </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">castle </del>in the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">trailer</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">While the narrator</del>'s <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">identity is unclear, they appear to be describing a history where ruling families gained their power by making oaths to Woedica. When they broke those oaths the deity — also the goddess </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">vengeance — created monsters like </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">one </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">player character </del>is <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">waiting for at </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">end of </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">trai</del>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed is Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming first-person fantasy RPG. Many fantasy fans were quick </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">notice the similarities between </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game as shown in its reveal trailer and The Elder Scrolls series</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">leading some </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">wonder if Obsidian </ins>is <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">aiming for Bethesda's spot </ins>in the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">roleplaying mar</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Now </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it's under Microsoft's wing</ins>, it'<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">s in a good window of time </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">experiment </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">get the most of Microsoft's support</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">These years of trying new ideas will inform what Obsidian creates in the future and give </ins>Microsoft <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a better picture of what </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">expect out </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">this new working relations</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">As such, </ins>Avowed <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">seemed to be the odd man out this year</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">though </ins>the game <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">was briefly mentioned at the end of the show by Xbox head Phil Spencer. With The Outer Worlds 2 likely in very early development, Avowed is likely Obsidian</ins>'s <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">next major game release , which means more news could </ins>be <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">coming later in 2021 </ins>at <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">one of the various game events left this y</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">The specialization of class systems can be very satisfying, however, particularly in RPGs where the player travels in a party like </ins>Avowed 's <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">CRPG precursor series Pillars of Eternity , which came with eleven largely traditional fantasy RPG classes</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">That level of specialization </ins>can <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">also be particularly immersive </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a way Skyrim 's jack-</ins>of<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">-all-trades Dragonborn sometimes falls shorts</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">A classless sytem also risks generalizing gameplay - players </ins>may <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">not be an all-out mage, for example</ins>, but <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">there's little reason not to use </ins>Skyrim 's <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">starting Healing spell regardless of their playst</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">One </ins>of the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">reasons Obsidian is moving its </ins>Pillars of Eternity <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">setting to a first-person RPG format is financial</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">As well-received as </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Pillars </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eternity games were, </ins>it is <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">hoped that moving the RPG series to a more recognizable format will help draw new players</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">This</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">in turn</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">would help further establish Obsidian Entertainment as Microsoft's RPG powerhouse (especially considering </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Bethesda acquisiti</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Most fantasy fans also have far fewer expectations when it comes to Avowed ’s lore and what they might expect to find in the Living Lands . While players </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">The Elder Scrolls 6 might find exploring Dwemer ruins less exciting and more familiar than it was when they first played </ins>Skyrim <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">, Avowed </ins>'s <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">players are far less likely to know about aspects of </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lore like the ancient Engwithan ruins running underneath Eora and their connection </ins>to the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">world’s backst

Before her overthrow, however</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Woedica was </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">most powerful and dangerous </ins>of the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">gods</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">The </ins>Avowed <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">trailer hints that </ins>the upcoming RPG <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">may </ins>be <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">set </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Eora before Woedica was overthrown. If so</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">this would explain the difference between the technology seen in </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Avowed trailer and </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">guns </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">cannons known </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">exist in Pillars of Eternity . Assuming that technology progressed at roughly </ins>the same <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">rate in Eora as it did in Earth's history , </ins>Avowed <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">would be set several centuries before Pillars of Eterni</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">However, there were </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bunch of major titles, some expected </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">launch later this year</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">which also went missing in action at the all digital event</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Here </ins>are the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">twenty biggest games </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">go missing at E3 20</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Unfortunately, not much else has been revealed regarding the zombie survival game. Following its reveal, Undead Labs did confirm that the game was still very early in development indicating release would still be </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">long ways off</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Without much else to go </ins>on <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a year later</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">its understandable that most fans felt </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">new trailer or development update would be ready, though if State of Decay 3 is attempting </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fix and build off of </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">franchise's legacy</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">development could be </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lengthy </ins>one<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">, especially to fulfill that huge open world sandbox survival fant</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">In contrast, </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">townsfolk of Solstheim frequently reference their isolation </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the small size of </ins>their <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">settlement</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">despite Raven Rock being bigger </ins>than <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">some of </ins>Skyrim <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">’s other settlements like Riverwood and Rorisktead</ins>. Avowed <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">could create towns which are the same size as Skyrim ’s cities, but seem far more convincing as hastily constructed frontier towns </ins>than <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">ancient seats </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">power no bigger than a f</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">One major Obsidian project is actually already accessible. Grounded went into early access </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">July 2020 , and Obsidian has been supporting it aggressively ever since</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Grounded is </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">new take on </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">familiar premise: </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">player characters are children who've mysteriously been shrunken down</ins>, and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">now have </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fight insects much larger than them to survive</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Although Grounded looked strong from the beginning</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Obsidian consistently comes up with good additions </ins>to the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">like new buildings for players to create and a koi pond offering a tense and beautiful new way to engage with </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">microscopic wo</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Grounded is </ins>Obsidian's <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">big potential release for 2021</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but </ins>the studio's <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">next step is public too</ins>. Following the announcement, it didn't take long for most studios and companies to jump on board and setting up their own digital events. Microsoft, Ubisoft, Square Enix, and many others set up their own showcases promising to reveal more on a ton of upcoming games both for 2021 and in the coming ye

The studio may not have revealed much solid information about Avowed so far, but that first trailer still gives some huge hints about the upcoming game's villain and setting. Many fans will be hoping to learn more details about Avowed from Obsidian at E3 2021 next mo

It appears that significant progress has already been made developing [https://Reconcavoafrofestival.com/ Avowed combat Guide] 's dungeons. Fans can only hope that Obsidian chose to keep some of the unique dungeon design found in Pillars of Eternity . It may seem risky to move away from the Elder Scrolls formula , but those risks could be just what helps Avowed step out of Skyrim 's sha

So many of these huge metaphysical revelations, including the fact that the gods are manmade, come out during the events of Pillars of Eternity . This raises the question of what mysteries Avowed might explore if it is set before these universe-shattering discoveries. In any case, if Avowed is set before Pillars of Eternity but after the fall of the Engwithan civilization , the machine will still be directing the souls of the dead through The Wh

Many of Skyrim 's dungeons lead the player through a clear linear path to the end, which in turn loops back to the start of the dungeon. Just as Avowed 's AI could be more dynamic, the upcoming RPG's dungeons could be more open in floor plan, allowing players to approach problems from multiple angles. A dungeon could present the player with two choices, for example: tackle a difficult puzzle which leads deeper into the dungeon, or try and take another route to the same location that is guarded by more enemies. Avowed players should have to keep their wits about them, rather than simply moving forward and killing every NPC they run acr

Avowed may not use a system entirely similar to Oblivion , but The Elder Scrolls 4 may give a good idea of what Avowed 's class system might be working from if it has one. In this case classes are essentially major stat modifiers — they don't necessarily affect what the player is able to do, but they do greatly tilt the likelihood of success in favor of certain tact

For a time this made Obsidian's position particularly precarious. Back in 2010 when Fallout: New Vegas got an 84 on Metacritic , Bethesda denied Obsidian a bonus contingent on the game receiving an 85 on the review aggregator. This led Obsidian CEO Francis Urquhart to announce the cancellation of a planned project codenamed "North Carolina." While bigger studios like Bethesda can weather less successful releases like Fallout 76 , for a time it seemed like Obsidian was just one flop away from falling ap

Dwemer ruins tend to be the most expansive and varied in their design, but Avowed will need to do much more than emulate Skyrim 's best dungeon experiences. With evidence that Avowed may be further along in development than fans think, here are just some of the ways Obsidian could redefine the dungeon-diving experience for the next generat

All of the gods in Avowed 's universe were created by an ancient civilization which lived on Eora. The Engwithans were a continent-spanning culture packed full of rival kings and armed with powerful technology. They were able to manipulate souls through a science known as Animancy . As Animancy developed the Engwithans became masters of metaphysics, and began finding solid answers to abstract metaphysical questions. To their shock, they discovered there were no gods. Determined to cover up the truth, the leaders of Engwith decided to make their

This bodes well for The Outer Worlds 2 , which was announced at E3 2021. The game's trailer parodied the early announcements of other games - particularly RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Elder Scrolls 6 - suggesting it's in very early development. In that case, The Outer Worlds 2 could be in Obsidian's back pocket, with the announcement trailer designed to keep interest in the studio's upcoming releases as it works on Avowed . In other words, the fact that both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 are "in development" doesn't actually mean that Obsidian is dividing its resources evenly between the games, or anywhere cl

Oaths are referenced twice, and the trailer ends with a reference to a crown. Crowns are one of Woedica's symbols, and unlike the other gods of Eora Woedica can be seen wearing a crown in all of her depictions. A crown symbol very similar to Woedica's can also be seen on the banner hanging from the castle in the trailer. While the narrator's identity is unclear, they appear to be describing a history where ruling families gained their power by making oaths to Woedica. When they broke those oaths the deity — also the goddess of vengeance — created monsters like the one the player character is waiting for at the end of the trai
