Speed Brawl Review: Being Fast Isn t Everything
While Mall Brawl originally debuted on Switch and PC last year, this year's new Arcade Edition on consoles adds in better graphics and a remastered soundtrack . As the name implies, that does boost the game past the capabilities of 8-bit consoles, but not far enough to feel inauthentically retro. There is a toggle in the settings to switch between both versions, and the differences in all cases are noticeable but minimal. In his final appearance, he canonically dies by holding in a burp at a dinner party, causing a build-up of pressure which makes his head fly off. After another character unceremoniously eats his head, Powdered Toast Man and his signature catchphrase, "Leave everything to me," were heard from no more. Beyond that, Speed Brawl is all wrapped up in a tidy, time trial-esque package, although those racing elements might not shine through as clearly as the beat 'em up sections. Nonetheless, the game's emphasis on beat 'em up combat is a nice return, as though Streets of Rage 4 is on the way, the speedier elements of the nineties brawler haven't had a good outing in a fairly long time bar Guacamel
All things considered, the WWE Brawl Pad is priced to sell and it does have a nice list of features . However, the D-pad doesn’t seem to be too effective or responsive and this is a must for fighting games. If you really love the Rock or need an affordable new pad, I’d recommend this. The first stage shown off for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl seems to be related to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . Though it could also just be a basic stage that's not related to any property. Each character is shown popping up on a rooftop location. In several shots, the characters are also battling across the stage, which means it will likely be playable. Next, is at least one stage based on Spongebob Squarepants . Early in the trailer, a few characters are fighting on a pirate ship. Later, the characters are fighting through the Jelly Fish Fields. It's tough to say, but this could be a single stage where the ship pops up in the middle of a battle. Either way, they're definitely straight from the Spongebob cart
The pad feels similar to both the Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers, except for the lack of both analog sticks and additional shoulder button room. The rubbery grips on the side of the pad do indeed help it stay firmly seated within your palms, even when they are sweating bullets. The shoulder buttons feel a little too…flat. They don’t extend far enough from the controller for me to accurately tell if I’ve completely pushed them, but a nice clicking sound alleviates this as an issue. Enemies gang up on an isolated player often, getting off cheap shots that could be avoided with a second character on screen. The worst part of the pad, and this is by a pretty long shot, is the D-pad. Complicated directional inputs, particularly the "Z" motion (dragon uppercut) and half circle inputs, don’t seem to come out all the time. This is crucial in tight spots. For example, in MVC3 , after using a hard knockdown attack in the air with Viper, you must quickly land near your opponent and input HCB+AA to use her super which will carry her opponent off the ground and set them up for further devastation. I regularly use this combo with both a standard 360 controller and a standard PS3 controller. Although I tried many times, I could absolutely never pull it off on the Brawl
